The Heart of a Mother as an Image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

  We see in the Gospels very often Jesus speaking of him and the Father “as being one,” of him not doing his will but the “will of the Father,” and of him resting in the Father’s “bosom.” If one then were to summarize Jesus’ mission on earth, everything he said and everything he did, one could say that he came to reveal “the heart of his Father” to the world—to His lost children. Every gesture, every movement, every word and every action of Jesus reveals his Sacred Heart, his innermost sacred desires for us, and these innermost sacred desires are the ones of the Father’s heart as well. It was his mission to share it with us and take us back to the Father where there are “dwelling places” prepare for us. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is in the most truthful way the Sacred
Heart of his Father.

  In order to make this revelation possible, Jesus needed to have a receptive heart—a heart that would receive everything from his Father. A heart that could be receptive in order to manifest the most profound desires of God for his children “scattered throughout the world.” It was the plan of God for this quality, this virtue of Jesus’ heart, to be formed by his earthly parents, Joseph and Mary. But in a very special way, by his mother Mary who opened herself completely to the plan of God the moment she conceived Jesus in her womb. I believe it is safe to say that in the plan of salvation, the immaculate heart of Mary formed and shaped the Sacred Heart of Jesus and in this communion of hearts, Jesus received everything that came from his Father and move in the will of his Father. It is in fact this communion of hearts the fulfillment of God’s plan for us. Saint John Paul II would say that this gift of receptivity, this virtue of receptivity, although found in both Joseph and Mary, it is inscribed in the heart, mind and body of a woman in a very special way. It is one of the greatest gifts of women to the world.

  As we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus back to heaven, Mother’s Day, and as we deepen to understand and celebrate the gift of belonging to a parish named after the Sacred Heart of Jesus, let us ponder and contemplate this communion of hearts, which is the inner place in the human person where the encounter with God takes place. As we continue to meditate and grow in our desire to have a deeper communion with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, let us also remember how the gift of receptivity that a mother can bestow in her children can be a crucial gift that can impact the world for it is from this receptivity that we can become “one with the Father,” “do the will of the Father,” and rest in his “bosom.”

  To all the mothers of our parish, I thank you for your gift of receptivity inscribed in your heart, mind and body. It is my prayer that this gift inscribed in your being can bless your children in a way that their hearts be shaped like the Heart of Jesus, which is a heart open to receive the mission of our Father in heaven and change the world.

El Corazón de una Madre como Imagen del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús

  Al escuchar las palabras de Jesús “yo soy uno con mi Padre,” “yo solo vine a hacer la voluntad de mi Padre,” y de cómo Jesús descansaba en el “corazón” de su Padre, uno no puede más que quedarse maravillado al contemplar tan profunda comunión entre el Hijo y el Padre. Tan perfecta comunión nos lleva a anhelar una comunión como esa en nuestro propio corazón. Tomando estas palabras, uno puede resumir la misión de Jesús de la siguiente manera— Jesús vino al mundo a revelar el corazón de su Padre. Jesús vino al mundo a revelar los deseos más íntimos de amor del Padre hacia nosotros. Cada palabra de Jesús, cada acción, cada movimiento, y cada gesto revelaban al mundo lo que había en su Sagrado Corazón—que era también el Sagrado Corazón de su Padre.

  Para poder hacer esta revelación, Jesús necesitaba tener un corazón receptivo—un corazón que recibiera todo de su Padre. Un corazón que recibiera para poder manifestar todos los deseos más profundos de Dios hacia sus hijos “dispersos por el mundo” para traerlos de regreso a Él. Fue el plan de Dios que esta cualidad de receptividad fuera formada y desarrollada en el corazón humano de Jesús por medio de sus padres José y María, pero de una manera muy específica por medio de su madre quien en total receptividad se abrió al plan de Dios para bendecir al mundo con Jesús—Dios hecho hombre. Uno puede decir con seguridad que en el plan de salvación el corazón de Jesús fue formado por el corazón Inmaculado de María y en este encuentro de lo humano con lo divino, en este encuentro de corazones, Jesús pudo recibir “todo lo que venía de su Padre” y moverse solo en la voluntad de Él. Uno puede decir que esta comunión de corazones es la plenitud del plan de Dios para nosotros.
 
  San Juan Pablo II decía que este don de receptividad—esta cualidad de receptividad, aunque se encuentra en José y María, es un regalo, un don, más marcado en la mujer de una manera muy especial. Este don de receptividad, si tenemos los ojos para contemplarlo, lo veremos en el corazón, la mente y el cuerpo de cada mujer. Es este don en realidad lo que hace a la mujer tan bello regalo para el mundo, especialmente para sus hijos. Porque es en este don de receptividad donde ellas pueden formar a sus hijos para recibir “todo lo que viene de Dios.”

  Al celebrar ahora el día de la Ascensión, el día de las Madres y al comenzar a prepararnos para aprender y celebrar el regalo de pertenecer a la Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, busquemos contemplar esta unión de corazones pues es allí donde toma lugar el encuentro más profundo con Dios. Mientras continuamos adentrándonos en nuestro deseo de comunión con el Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, recordemos también como el regalo, el don, de la receptividad que una madre puede engendrar en su hijo es de una importancia crucial porque este don puede impactar al mundo de una manera profunda.

  Les doy las gracias a todas las madres de nuestra Iglesia por ese don tan hermoso de la receptividad. Es mi oración que este don tan bello inscrito en su corazón, en su mente y en su cuerpo bendiga a todos sus hijos de una manera en que los corazones de ellos se formen como el Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, lo cual es un corazón abierto a la misión que nuestro Padre del cielo tenga para ellos.
